Hi everyone,

As most of you know, we had a problem recently with non-unique snames
being assigned to new animals. NAV was used for both Navy and Nutty's
infant Navajoe. Navajoe's name was changed to Nido (sname NID) and Navy
will keep NAV. Nothing was really updated into the system for
Navajoe/Nido yet, and I think I've changed everything that needs to be
changed for this case in the pre-update stages.

The other case was DHO, which had already been used for the immigrant
male Dhow and then was assigned to the new infant Dhoruba. It was
decided to leave Dhoruba with the sname DHO, and to leave Dhow's long
name but change his sname to DOW. I have made the necessary changes in
the master tables (Biograph, Members, Census, Parts, Ranks), but the
tricky part is the points data. The points data from the period when
Dhow was around (97-98 in Nyayo's and Dotty's) are not in the master
tables - those start in Oct 99. I found what I'm pretty sure are the
cumulative points files for this time period (that I think Jessica Zayas
put together for Susan?) and made the necessary changes to those. I
know that Joan/Steph are working on some points data, and I don't know
what files you're working from. You can either download the points
files that I changed here, Steph, or make the necessary changes
yourselves. The points files I changed are N9600 and D9699 in the
folder c:\users\altmann\points\cumulative on my computer. I changed all
DHOs in each of the 3 neighbor columns (Nn, M1, and M2) to DOW.

I hope I've caught all the instances of these snames, but just be aware
of this issue in case something funny shows up, and let me know if you
find anything I didn't catch!
