Suppose the date is a Tdate, to which cycle/Tdate does the date belong?
No problem, it belongs with the Tdate. But, suppose the date is a date
between an Ddate and a Mdate. Which cycle/sexual cycle event does
the date go with? It goes with both the Ddate and the Mdate, and so
with two different cycles. The cpids is the sexual cycle event start
id, the cpid of the Ddate. The cpide is the sexual cycle event end
date, the cpid of the Mdate. You choose which is more interesting
when you write the query.

(Actually in the case of the Tdate, it could still have a start and
end that differ -- that cover the interval between the Tdate and
the next Ddate. I'd guess so, for consistency with all the other
rows, but I'd have to re-read the docs.)
