Jun,

One of the things I had to clean up in my patch to
phpPgAdmin (PPA) for babase was the handling of
multi-byte character encodings. Because I'm not
at all familiar with Chinese or Japanese or any
of those languages that make extensive use
of multi-byte character encodings I was not able
to test this aspect of the patch.

See here, and the thread:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=36366564
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=29534058&forum_id=171

(I just sent out a new patch today to apply
cleanly against Friday's cvs update.)

If you have somebody on hand who'd be able to
test the multi-byte encoding aspect of the
patch and report the results to the ppa developers
that would smooth the process of getting the patch
accepted. They'd need a webserver/database configured
to support a multi-byte encoding so they could send
the data back and forth.

Just a thought.
