Susan and Leah,
I'm going to try to put up a prototype by Monday. This will be on one of my
servers, but it will be using the same technology as you have installed on
your server (PHP4 and Postgres 8).
Moving it over to your servers will not be trivial, but I'm hoping it won't
take too long either.
What you'll see on Monday is the capability to paste both the A and B parts
of an Excel spreadsheet into a web page, then be able to view and edit the
differences. I've changed the design a little bit from what we discussed,
but hopefully it will be better rather than worse. We can use the prototype
to finalize the design before it goes into production.
Included in this project are the inserts into the final table. You should be
able to go from Excel to final data using only your browser.
I will continue to develop on my own machines, and put then into production
when we're happy with the application. This is much faster for me than
dealing with various levels of logins at Duke.
Susan, I am going to give you a "not to exceed" estimate of 20 hours.
The initial setup and integration between our two systems is time-consuming,
but after it's been done once, the subsequent transfers should go much
faster. So it's going to take more than 20 hours for this project, but I'm
charging you only for 20. For projects after this one, integration won't be
an issue, and I'll be able to develop more accurate estimates since the bulk
of the time will be spent programming.
I hope you like the interface. I'll email you the link on Monday (or
possibly as late as Tuesday) when it's ready.

Subject: Patrick and Karl's email addresses
Hi Patrick and Karl,
This is an introductory email to get each of you connected with the
other via email, and with my and Leah's emails included too.
Patrick, thanks for coming by today, it was great meeting you. We
will let you know when we have connected with Hunter, our systems
manager, and found out what is involved in getting you a server
login. Karl will get you the database login. The accounts person
Renee said that she doesn't need any further information from you at
the moment, just that when you invoice us you should include your SSN
and your home mailing address.
Susan
