We do want to retain that setup. It's what's saved us now.
If we could it'd be good to do raid 0 over raid 1,
(raid 1+0) so we can take advantage of all the spindles.
I'm not heavy into md so I don't know if this is feasible
without a full restore.
While we're talking drives I want to mention that
the drives installed might, possibly, not be up
to the scsi level that the bus can handle. lvd 160s
instead of 320s or something. I could be totally wrong
but there was some sort of drive mis-match at some point
(going back to that "spare drive" thought) and
I don't recall if it ever got worked out.
Or maybe it was rotation speed? Sorry for
the waffling.

I would think twice what we've got would be plenty.
I don't know. It depends on the money and what's
coming down the pike in terms of data requirements.
(This mention of 15GB came out of the blue.)
You need to talk with Susan Alberts
and/or Jeanne Altmann (of Princeton). It's Jeanne
who's got the money so she's probably the person
to talk with. altj at princeton.edu if you guys want
to set something up. (I think it'll be a bit before
Susan's back.)

If we want to do something temporary I'll just mount /tmp
loop and drop you an email. It'll have to be redone after
reboot -- too bad.
