[Babase] CADET

We just made a very frustrating discovery. Like WRINKLE, apparently CADET
was initially classified as a female and then subsequently was found to be
a male but that information never made it into the records in some overt
way. As a result, CADET is female in biograph and was a subject of the
juvenile hormone study, not caught when we caught WRINKLE and instead still
in the dataset. This was just caught because Daphne is working on the
female matrices, CADET went above 'her' mother, I stupidly said that it had
happened twice before (not going 'click', check gender; she and/or I
usually to for a bunch of checks on anything odd), and Daphne was
complaining to Nga about this troublesome 'girl' when Nga was here Friday,
and Nga said 'boy'.
Bummer.
I propose to tell Laurence when she gets back, proceed to submit the ms as
planned in the next week but then make the correction and all the
reanalyses during the review process. This shouldn't make any real changes
in these broad findings, might make a couple of things stronger if any change.
Daphne & I have talked about ways to close this loop beyond the extra
checking the field team has said they will do at the beginning of each month.
We propose that (1) they immediately send a message when they discover such
a change (2) the names list in Amb have gender on it (may have already?)
and that list be checked periodically (when? How?), (3) when a birth is
first entered in Biograph (using neonatals, demog, and repro sheets), demog
records from a few months later also be checked, and (4) perhaps a
confimation of sex be sent to Amb when Biograph is being updated once or
twice a year.
Thoughts?
