Hi all-
Susan and I met today to finalize my work plan for the duration of
Susan's Kenya stay. First priority will go to helping Karl with with data
conversion and data integrity checks.

Second, I will be working on data sets that are waiting to go forward and
be incorporated into babase. Below is a summary of these data sets:

Data sets in good shape:
1. Predation data - SLC has copy of Duke Cd, with Tay's final compilation
of predation data. SLC will need to get a copy of Gabriel's data that were
entered at Princeton. SLC will contact Daphne/JA for this. The Duke set
is proofed, presumably Princeton too, but need input from JA. Assuming
both sets are proofed, the files then need to be combined and checked for
format issues (both between the sets and for eventual update into babase)

2. Male movements - Karen has this info mostly entered. There's very
little left to enter, but the data set needs major proofing. Karen left
info with SLC about things that need to be cross-checked, etc. It's likely
that SLC will have Jasmine help with this proofing job.

Data sets that may be in good shape:
1. Intergroup encounters - SLC will contact JA about the status of this
data set. Sarah Mathews (Princeton undergrad) began entry, but the Duke
team doesn't know how far she got.

Entry needed:
1. Hybridity: SCA has given SLC her 2000 excel spreadsheets and
documentation for this data set. SLC needs to enter subsequent years of
data. SLC will also need to consult with Karl about how to integrate this
set into babase. Current thoughts are that there will be a "raw" data
table, with all of the individual variables that make up the final hybrid
score. A final hybrid score could get a column in biograph. Final hybrid
scores will only be entered into biograph for adults or dead juveniles
(this is because living juveniles are a work in progress, and will get
re-scored at various time points).

Low Priority data sets:
1. Paternity genotypes (what to do with Jason's system? His system should
be fairly easy to integrate into babase; it was set up to be. We will need
to consult with Karl)
2. Endocrine data

Unclear status:
1. Wound/Pathologies - SLC needs to consult with JA for the vision for this
data set and how much entry has been accomplished.

2. All group ranks: Juvenile ranks that have been done. Need to see where
these stand. There are ranks that have been determined (some males by
Mihai in Susan's lab and some females by Jessica Z. in Jeanne's lab), but
they need to be entered into babase. The question is how to enter and
clarify the "status" of the ranking, i.e. is it simply a juvenile ranking?
are there missing data? is it a ranking where a juvenile is beginning to
integrate into the adult rankings?

Other:
1. Male ranks & consorts - Once Daphne has finished update and wants/needs
male ranks, SLC can run ranks and do a preliminary run through (using SCA's
rules). These working ranks that SLC does will be forwared to SCA for
checking. We didn't discuss anything regarding consorts.

2. We didn't discuss what to do with some of the smaller bits, like male
maturation, male age estimates and male canines. In some ways, these are
likely to fall under "low priority" right now. BUT, if these bits will help
with the "ranked by" and "matured by" columns that I so desperately want in
biograph or babase somewhere then we should reconsider.

And I thought I wouldn't get to write y'all a long email today!!!
