Hello all,
This is an email to update everyone as to our conference call this
morning and the course of action for the next few weeks in preparation
for severing ties with Foxpro.

1. Tabby will finish (today) 1 small error in the cycles data and turn
the database back over to Karl on papio complete with new dumptext.

2. Karl will then run a new conversion producing the *hopefully empty*
errors_v20 file which should be available this evening.

3. Karl will also then run an upload into babase and then a compare to
make sure that babase 1.0 matches babase 2.0.

4. After this is done, we should have a completely clean, updated,
functional copy of the database in Babase 2.0.

5. I will then take on the task of entering the old Census files for
Alto's group from Sept 1980 through Dec 1989 using foxpro. Once these
files are proofed and ready (which they almost are) this process
shouldn't take long at all (half a day?)

6. Karl then runs another conversion and we fix any errors which are
produced by this process (crossing fingers for trivial ones).

7. We will then do another compare to ensure that we didn't lose any
census information in translation.

8. After that, We will be finished with foxpro and old ranks files, as
well as remaining historic census files will be entered via the new
system, Babase 2.0!

We also discussed placing a "dataset status table" on the front page of
the wiki to inform users of the most recent update dates for given
datasets. This is something I will be creating in the near future and
it should give users a better idea of what they can expect from their
queries using Babase 2.0 and what they can feasibly ask.

Lastly, in spite of Karl's efforts to make postgres allow uploading into
views, he found the process was just going to take too long.
Alternatively, he spent some time writing his own program which will
allow us to update to tables as well as views. Information about this
program can be found in the Data Maintenance Programs section of the
documentation under "Uploads". This program will allow uploads of
MTD's, demog notes, sexskins, pregs, and more. This is another big step
in our move to Babase 2.0.

Sorry this has been such a long email, but we have made a significant
amount of progress and the conference call today was very productive.

I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend!

Cheers,
Lacey
