[Babase] Determining adult males - question for Susan

Hi Susan,

Laurence and I have just been looking more carefully at the number of
adult males in each study group and I wanted to double-check something
with you. In particular, Laurence drew my attention to Linda's group in
the time period of Feb 2001 - Mar 2002. My queries of Babase with the
combined list of rank dates from Leah's file and Biograph ended up with
no adult males in Linda's group for that entire time period.

This seemed a bit suspect so we looked into things more carefully. I
went back and looked in detail at which males were in Linda's in that
time period, what their ages were, and double checked whether or not
they had rank dates. I didn't check every individual, but here are 2
cases I'm not sure how to interpret... both MOR and ZIN do not have a
ranked date in either file, are over ~14 years old, and have
consortships in Babase. I'm not sure that any one of those factors
uniquely suggests they had reached adulthood, but the combination seems
to imply something may be off - though whether that's my understanding
or the data itself isn't clear to me.

Anyway, we were hoping you could provide some insight again. The
objective of the query for Laurence was to determine the total number of
adult males in each study group from 1 Dec 1999 through 31 Dec 2004.

Thanks so much,
Catherine
