So, FWIW Karl, the system is responding to the insertion of a ddate by
generating an automatic mdate, but it is not responding to the deletion
of a dcpid from PREGS.conceive by generating an auto Mdate.
....and I still don't know why the system didn't grump at me for the
missing ddate.
