<div class=Section1>
<p class=MsoNormal>Catherine emailed me earlier about a problem she was having
with members. She was working on a count of baboons in each group at the
start of each month and was getting no output for some groups in some months.
An example she gave was <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>select * from members where date >= '2008-01-01' and grp
= '1.10'<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>whereas queries for other groups on the same dates worked
fine (e.g., Linda’s group on the above date).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I dug around a little and found that members was only
listing dates with an origin of I – only the interpolated data is showing
up in members. Example – all the census data is missing from Apollo’s
members record:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>select * from members where date >= '2008-01-01' and grp
= '1.10' and sname = 'APO' order by date;<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>select * from census where date >= '2008-01-01' and grp =
'1.10' and sname = 'APO' order by date;<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>This happens with older data too (e.g., select * from
biograph where sname = 'BEA'; select * from census where sname = 'BEA' order by
date; select * from members where sname = 'BEA' order by date; Beam
doesn’t even show up in members until the end of 1993 when his “L”
census records cease)<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I thought maybe something buggy happened during the last
rebuild so I tried rebuilding it but it is still the same. It is doing
the same thing in babase_test.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Remember last week when I said Amok was weird because he was
the only baboon with more than one entry where the interp column = 0?
This is why. Amok’s census data we just added for when he was Billy
(1995-1997) is in members (each census line gets interp = 0) but his later
census data when he entered a study group is not in members so there are no
rows there with origin C or interp = 0.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>select * from members where interp = 0;<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>select * from members where sname = 'AMO' order by
date; <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Karl, when you made that change to the interpolation rules
to interpolate correctly around Amok’s birth, could that have thrown off whatever
interpolation rule pulls the census data into members with the interpolated
data? Or does rebuilding it from scratch not pull in the existing census
data (which would be another bug)?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Thanks,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Niki<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
