Thanks Ryan, for this configuration for a new server that you sent us
6 weeks ago.
What does the following configuration look like, is it possible and
what would the cost be:
1 x Intel E5520 Processor (4 cores @ 2.26GHz , compared to papio's 1
core @ 3.00GHz)
6GB RAM (compared to papio's 2GB)
4 x 73GB 15k SAS hard drives [NOTE: this is more drives than you
configured, 15k instead of 10k)
Redundant 502W power supplies
5x10 NDB Onsite hardware (including hard drives) support for 5 years
At this point, we know we will probably replace it sometime in the
next year. Karl points out that, given this is true, we don't really
need to be driven by when the warranty runs out. Obviously we want to
replace it before it breaks, but in that framework we have some leeway.
So, we are now thinking about the timing of this purchase. It would be
good, but not strictly necessary, to wait until Karl's changes have
been incorporated into ppa before we do this. It would also be good to
wait until after RedHat Linux comes out with a new version, depending
on where we are in the cycle of new versions. There may be other
things determining optimal timing, I will let you and Karl weigh in on
that and we'll start a discussion on this thread.
Thanks,
Susan
