We have two new functions available in babase for converting dates to
hydrological year and season. They are as follows:

hydroyear() Takes a date and returns the hydrological year.

season() Takes a date and returns a code for the season (wet/wetter vs.
dry).

Thanks Catherine for suggesting and Karl for implementing!

Another handy date function (an oldie but goodie) = rnkdate() Take a date
and returns the first of the month (e.g., an agonism that took place on
2009-08-27 becomes 2009-08-01) - great for matching events within a month up
by say the date on which an animal was ranked (always the first of the
month) or for just getting all dates into a month/year-equivalent format for
use in pivot tables.

Enjoy!
