Ryan just explained his setup to me and everything looks
good. Lacey has checked out the data side so that looks
good too.

I'll do the Mdate update now and after that we'll be back
in business. The disks should be much faster. I'd be
interested in knowing if/how much it makes a difference
in the real world.

For the record, the result of my conversation with Ryan
was:

Our utilization of the disks is not 100% optimal, in that
should we need more disk space than we're using now we
might not get the absolute best performance. However,
we are setup for optimal performance now and will probably
wind up getting new hardware or software upgrades
before we need more disk space. At that point we
can re-work the disk utilization if necessary.

I asked Ryan to email us with information about
the Duke backup system, but as I write this
I'm not sure we need any further information.
The "new" system retains 6 months of daily backups.
Worst case (fire or something) it could take a couple
of days to get a backup restored. Backups are to
tape.

FYI, we can lose a disk and stay running, albeit with
reduced performance.
