Karl,
I'm getting into the proofing and noticed this...
Looks to me like the time between an abort/stillbirth and the mom's next
tdate is coded as lactating (just like the coding for successful
pregnancy). I haven't systematically checked all aborts/stillbirths,
but rather spot-checked 5 or so and this was consistently the case. For
example, see repstats associated with JAD114 (aborted 8 August 1996),
WEA4 (aborted 17 June 1998), and WEA5 (aborted 5 April 1999). SOR4 is
one abort for which the mom immediately goes from a pregnant state to a
cycling state, but this seems to be simply due to the fact that SOR had
a tdate the day just after the abort.
Lactating seems an inappropriate state here to me - I would have made
the females immediately start cycling after the failed pregnancy ended.
Was this already discussed and deliberately planned to have them in
the "L" state, or possibly just an oversight when coding?
For the record, I'm not positive what the correct state should be (it is
just my own guess that lactating might be wrong).
Thanks,
Catherine
